What We Do

The Ontario Provincial Committee is sanctioned by the National League to administer and support the Air Cadet Program across Ontario, in partnership with the network of Regional Cadet Support Units, established by the Department of National Defence. The jurisdictional area of the OPC  includes all of the Province, except the Ottawa-Carlton area.

The OPC is supported by an Office staff compromised of:

Yvonne Cooper, CD, MA, MPA

Executive Director

Jessie Nguyen

Community Support Coordinator - Finance

Wendy Jensen

Community Support Coordinator - Volunteer  Administration

Brenda La

Community Support Coordinator - CAF Directed Programs

John Evans

Community Support Coordinator - Fundraising and Awards

The Office is located in the City of Markham.   The OPC is incorporated under the Ontario Corporations Act and has Registered Charitable Status with the Charities Division of the Canada Revenue Agency. We have a volunteer base of approximately 2500 dedicated individuals supporting over 9000 Cadets.

In their simplest expression, the primary operational responsibilities of the OPC are to:

1. Oversee and support the local Sponsoring Committees for 119 Air Cadet Squadrons, including the sharing of best practices.

2. Conduct of nationally-mandated activities, such as Registration & Screening of Volunteers, and administration of the Air Cadet Service Medal.

3. Fund and support the Air Cadet Flying Program, primarily through the purchase and major repairs of a glider and tow-plane fleet.

4. Conduct province-wide lottery, subject to a license from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission.

5. Coordinate the application and merit-ranking process for National (6-week) summer courses, including Power and Glider Pilot Scholarships.

6. Fund and conduct specific portions of the Air Cadet Program, such as International Air Cadet Exchange Hosting.

7. Represent the League – at the Provincial level – to its DND and Aviation & Aerospace Partners, all other stakeholders in the Program, and the public and opinion makers.

8. Recognize the achievements of volunteer members, Cadets, and military partners.
