Volunteer Positions

Chairperson, Co-Chairperson, Vice Chairperson

The Chairperson and Co-Chairperson work closely with the Commanding Officer, Director, and other Squadron Sponsoring Committee members to coordinate the activities of the Squadron Sponsoring Committee and harness a strong effective partnership.  

Vice Chairperson

The Vice Chairperson carries out certain responsibilities as assigned by the Chairperson.  In the Chairperson and Co-Chairperson's absence, the Vice Chairperson will run Squadron Sponsoring Committee meetings and learn the role of the Chairperson as part of succession planning.

Secretary

The Secretary facilitates communication with stakeholders and prepares correspondence for the Squadron Sponsoring Committee.  He or she also, in consultation with the Chairperson, prepares meeting agendas and distributes meeting minutes. 

Treasurer

The Treasurer plays the key role in the management of a Squadron’s finances; a Treasurer’s mandate is to ensure the good financial health of the Squadron.  This is position best filled by a person with bookkeeping or accounting skills. Easy to learn tools are provided. 

General Member

General members assist the SSC with general duties and/or special events only.  General members do not have voting privileges with the Squadron Sponsoring Committee.

Committee Member

Squadron Sponsoring Committee members also include the Chairperson/Co-Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary, and Treasurer and together make up the Squadron Sponsoring Committee.  In unison, the Squadron Sponsoring Committee is responsible for recruiting cadets, officers, and volunteers; ensure financial health of squadron finances, secure facilities for cadet use and optional training activities including special trips.  Other responsibilities may be delegated as agreed upon between the Commanding Officer and Chairperson. 

CJCR (Civilian) Volunteer

CJCR Volunteers work with squadron staff, under the Commanding Officer's direction and are involved with authorized cadet activities in a non-supervising capacity. Parents and others who act as drivers for activities and chaperones must be screened and accepted by the CJCR command to become volunteers. Background screening includes a local police check and Vulnerable Sector Screening. 

Additional Squadron Sponsoring Committee  SUPPORT (CJCR volunteers are welcome to apply)

  • Run the Canteen

  • Handle Public Relations for the Squadron

  • Become the squadron's Web Master

  • Run fund raising events

  • Plan special Cadet activities

Director

Director is the only volunteer position that requires a background in the Air Cadets. Directors work directly with the Squadrons and guide their operation at the local level and regionally. 

Governor

Governors are the persons responsible for oversight of the organization and bear fiduciary responsibility for a registered charitable organization.

*All volunteer positions require completion of registration and screening process and approved by the Air Cadet League of Canada.
